Can you hear the melody?

We have been learning about melody in first grade!  Students have had a great time figuring out the movement of the melody in music!

Check out Mrs. Marlowe's class! Hopping low to high on  "Little Green Frog."

We played along with the melody in "Little Green Frog."

Second Graders Sing for America

2nd graders are working on their upcoming music program to honor our Veterans, "We Sing of America." This program will take place on November 6, 2014 at 6:30 pm in the CFG cafeteria.

We are learning the importance of respect and gratitude towards others and our country.  We are also discussing ways to sing with expression to create a certain feeling during our Veteran's day music.

This week we read "The Wall" by Eve Bunting.  This story is about a young boy and his father going to Washington, D.C. to view the monument wall for Veterans killed or who went M.I.A. during Vietnam War. This story shows not only the feeling in this family but others who may have been affected. (An elderly couple, a young boy and his grandfather, an injured soldier, and a group of school girls learning about the wall and its meaning.)

Grizzly Bear

Grizzly Bear, oh, grizzly bear is sleeping in a cave,
Please be very quiet, very, very quiet,
If you shake him, if you wake him,
He gets very mad!

This week kindergarten is singing using loud and soft dynamics.  We are talking about how dynamics can create a different feeling in a song. (EXPRESSION)  In this song, students start soft and gradually get louder with each phrase.

Ms. Whitaker's kindergarten class is coloring a grizzly bear while we listen to the song, "Grizzly Bear."

What is the form?

This week 3rd grade is working on form!  One of my favorite topics in music. Check out Ms. Plumley's and Mrs. Lee's classes!

Form are musical sections divided using A,B,C,D, etc.
This week we are focusing on AB form.

Third graders practiced moving to the form when it changed from the A section to the B section.

They also accompanied performances on the xylophone during "Ambos a dos" and "Joy to the World."

Mrs Lee's class knows about form!
